Linksys EA9500 Router Specifications
In my time examining the routers of all shapes, size and footprint, I realized that there are two camps regarding how the new units are designed either look stylish / sexy in your home, or constructed for thought, the shameless performance. Routers that fall into the first category as the C9 TP-Link AC1900 or WiFi Extender amplified are made to be small, unpretentious, and blend easily into the back – plane as incidental to the overall design of your home and not the star front seat and center.
Others, such as D-Link AC3200 or Netgear Nighthawk X8 , do not care what they look like, as long as they got the performance and the power to save their price tag up. In these two categories, 3.2lb and the size of a Linksys EA9500 directory easily falls into the latter, wearing the crown at once as one of the largest and heaviest routers we’ve tested so far.
The EA9500 is a router imposing size and the presence on the whole, with eight separate antenna aligning all sides of the unit, grated black plastic, and a small screen away on top. The screen effect is pleasant, seeming to emanate almost inside the router itself with a soft white light that flashes periodically blue if the MU-MIMO activity is detected or settings are changed.
Despite how it looked fresh, however, the screen was almost useless otherwise. We could not find a way to turn it off if we wanted to reduce the amount of ambient light in the room, and after trying a few different tasks to see what he answered, it was clear that the only information he was good to say whether or not a MU-MIMO was live; something of a regular LED light could do the same.
Because the EA9500 router is built first and foremost for performance, it is not surprising to see the large number of beefy specifications and features Linksys has managed to pack in her husky shell.
The EA9500 has a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, tri-band Wireless AC5400, 802.11ac wave 2 with a MU-MIMO beamforming system, eight high-power antennas, new gigabit Ethernet ports (LAN 8 , 1 Internet), USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 to set up an external memory or add onboard media servers.
If you have read one of my last comments Linksys router, you already know how much I love and on the instrument fawn Linksys Smart Wi-Fi onboard. Personally, I think it’s simply the best router configuration tool on the market, and fixed now an example that all other manufacturers in the business must be quick to follow.
Side of things office, has not changed much since my EA7500 review . All the same tools and features are available including basics such as parental controls and device adapters, to more impactful additions such as prioritization media that allows you to deeply customize applications and games have priority bandwidth on the rest.
However, when Linksys has made some significant changes, is on the mobile side. Although it is not publicly available yet, Linksys has taken many of the lessons learned from the original Smart Wi-Fi and import them to your phone. The transition between the two platforms feels transparent, and the end result is an elegant application, highly configurable enabling you to do all the same changes as you can on your computer with ease and simplicity of touch controls added to the above.
Distance and Speed Tests
Retail $ 349.99, the Linksys EA9500 AC5400 is undoubtedly one of the most expensive routers that you can buy on the shelves today. Thus, there also the performance of its huge price?
Oh, he got nearly as much power as you can reasonably expect and a little something to spare.
With MU-MIMO beamforming capabilities on board, the Linksys EA9500 not built for both the right output for the management of intelligent bandwidth and roaming capabilities, it handles perfectly. Allows beamforming routers intelligently manage how bandwidth is distributed throughout your home, depending on the location of the devices that it is sending information. In so many words, this means that if you and a friend or family member trying to use the data in the same physical location, the router for this account and create a greater flow for antennas that are closest you.
On the network of 2.4 GHz at a distance of 5 feet, we obtained results that highlight what the wireless performance peak looks in the second half of 2016, to 94.73Mbps down / to 106.49Mbps the top. A 30ft on 2.4GHz, we saw a slight drop 70.84Mbps down / 69.86Mbps up but was expected given the current limitations of 2.4 GHz transmission frequency.
the results were 5GHz more in line with the rest of the routers we tested, with 302.30Mbps up / down 295.30Mbps at a distance of 5 feet and 214.64Mbps down / 204.35Mbps up to 30ft.
If you live in a big house, have a fiber connection, or do a lot of 4K streaming at the same time one of your housemates trying to play a game or download a large file, the Linksys EA9500 might be good for you.
The router is definitely too much for most consumers, but for those precious few who want to take their Internet connectivity to the next level, the EA9500 is the next evolution in technology MU-MIMO Amped up to 11.
